Three convicted in domestic violence and dowry harassment case in Guntur

The Mangalagiri Court has sentenced three individuals to one year of imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1,000 each in a domestic violence and dowry harassment case registered under Section 498(A) IPC and Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act.

Guntur District Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal, in a statement late on Thursday (October 09) informed that, the case was filed in 2019 at the Guntur Urban Women Police Station based on a complaint from 24-year-old Tadiboyina Sumalatha of Namburu village, Pedakakani mandal. She accused her 33-year-old husband Tadiboyina Veeranjaneyulu, 60-year-old father-in-law Tadiboyina Sivaramaiah and mother-in-law Tadiboyina Sivamma, of physically and mentally harassing her for additional dowry.

After investigation, a charge sheet was filed in court, the SP added. Judge Prasanna Lakshmi, AJCJ, Mangalagiri, found all three accused guilty and sentenced them accordingly. In case of default in payment of the fine, each convict must serve an additional one month of imprisonment.
