PUNE: A 20-year-old student of a medical college in Ahmednagar’s Loni area drowned in the waters of Pavana dam near Thakursai village on Friday evening.
Police identified the victim as Manish Shankar Sharma, 20, from Mumbai. Residents of the area managed to save his classmate, Aditya Bundele, 20, of Nagpur, from drowning.
“A group of 15 students from a medical college in Ahmednagar came on a picnic.Four students waded into the water of the dam. Sharma and Bundele knew swimming but they started drowning after losing their breath. When they failed to come out, others raised an alarm,” a cop said. “Locals jumped and rescued Bundele. But they could not trace Sharma,” he added.
