Two individuals were arrested for their involvement in a series of laptop thefts targeting paying guest hostels in the Bahadurpally in Dundigal.
The accused were identified as 20-year-old Ganganamoni Anvesh Kumar, and the receiver 46-year-old Mayur Ashol Mewada. The police seized seven laptops from the accused worth around ₹3.50 lakh.
Dundigal Police Inspector, Satish, said the arrests brought an end to a spate of laptop thefts reported from PG hostels in the area over the past week. The first incident was reported in the early hours of January 24, when two laptops were stolen from a PG hostel in Bahadurpally. Two days later, on January 26, seven more laptops were stolen from multiple rooms in another PG hostel in the same locality.
The Dundigal police booked the cases and a special investigation team was formed to trace those involved. During the course of the probe, the crime team detained a suspicious person loitering near Bahadurpally X-road at around 7 p.m. on Sunday. On sustained questioning, he confessed to his role in the thefts. Police recovered two laptops from the accused and five more from the receiver. Further investigation is under way.
