In a horrifying incident in Jhansi district of Uttar Pradesh, a self-proclaimed tantrik sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl under the pretext of performing an exorcism ritual to treat her throat pain.
The girl, an eighth-grade student, had been suffering from persistent throat pain and difficulty eating for several days. When medical treatment did not help, some villagers suggested she was possessed. Her family then called Harbhajan, a resident of Niwari district in Madhya Pradesh who claims to perform exorcisms.
On November 18, Harbhajan arrived at the girl’s house. After examining her, he declared that she was under the influence of spirits and insisted on conducting the ritual alone in a closed room. He instructed the parents and other family members to remain outside. He warned them that the girl might cry or scream during the process but said no one should enter, as this was normal in such rituals.
TANTRIK FLED AFTER MOLESTING THE GIRL
The girl’s father said that the tantrik took his daughter inside the room and locked the door. After some time the family heard her crying loudly, but the tantrik had strictly forbidden them from entering. After about half an hour, he came out saying the ritual was complete and she would now get relief. Immediately after that, he fled.
As soon as the tantrik left, the girl, still sobbing uncontrollably, clung to her mother and revealed the ordeal. She told her family that Harbhajan had removed her clothes, rubbed lemons all over her body, and molested her for nearly 30 minutes.”
POLICE ON THE LOOKOUT
Shocked and traumatised, the family approached Baruasagar police station on Wednesday and lodged a formal complaint. The girl has undergone a medical examination, and police have registered a case under relevant sections for sexual assault on a minor.
Baruasagar Station House Officer Rahul Rathore confirmed: “A case has been registered against the accused, Harbhajan, on the complaint of the victim’s mother. Raids are being conducted to arrest him, and the matter is under investigation.”
