The Winter Session of Parliament began with significant disruptions as the ruling party and opposition clashed over the legislative agenda and alleged misconduct. The opposition demanded immediate debates on the Adani indictment, violence in Sambhal, and the ‘Special Intensive Revision’ (SIR) of electoral rolls. Congress MP Syed Nasir Hussain also called for discussions on ‘Operation Sindoor’ and stated that 47 Booth Level Officers had died during the SIR process. In response, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi labeled the opposition’s actions as ‘drama,’ highlighting an incident where Congress MP Renuka Chaudhary brought a puppy to Parliament. The government questioned the opposition’s unity while facing accusations of evading accountability on critical issues. These parliamentary standoffs have a considerable financial impact, with reports indicating a six-hour session costs nine crores to run.
