The trailer for Avengers: Doomsday was unveiled at CinemaCon 2026, and while it hasn’t been released publicly yet, early reports suggest it left the audience electrified. The event was attended by Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans, who previously played Tony Stark (Iron Man) and Steve Rogers (Captain America), respectively, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

However, while Evans is set to reprise his role as Captain America, RDJ will take on a strikingly different turn as the film’s primary antagonist, Doctor Doom.

According to reports from the event, the trailer opens with a glimpse of Doctor Doom, who appears to be orchestrating a multiversal invasion. It then cuts to Professor Xavier sensing an impending threat, followed by quick shots of several Marvel heroes, including Mr Fantastic, Bucky Barnes, Cyclops, Gambit, Shang-Chi, Mystique, Thor, and Captain America, among others.

One of the standout moments reportedly features a faceoff between Thor and Doctor Doom, where Thor’s Stormbreaker is rendered powerless against the supervillain. The scene escalates with the arrival of Steve Rogers, reuniting with Thor. The latter is left stunned upon seeing Captain America wielding Mjolnir.

Speaking at the event, Downey Jr said, “Honestly, I could not have imagined reuniting with this amazing team after such a glorious run of success and creative joy, let alone as a new character.” Evans added, “I said I would only come back if there was a real reason, and in Doomsday, there is a very real reason that these heroes need Steve Rogers now.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to bring together the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Wakandans, X-Men, and New Avengers as they face Doctor Doom. It is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and written by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely. The film is slated to release on December 18, 2026.
