In a rare and symbolic act of protest, a young man in Bilaspur scattered almonds across a government officer’s desk, calling out alleged administrative lapses after his property mutation file went missing for over a year.
The incident unfolded at a housing board office, where the complainant, Tarun Sahu, said repeated visits and follow-ups had yielded no results, with officials claiming the file could not be traced.
Sahu said he had purchased an EWS flat through resale around a year ago, but the mutation process remains incomplete due to the missing file. Without the documents, he has been unable to secure formal ownership.
“Every time I come here, I’m told the file is lost. How long can this go on?” he said, expressing frustration over the delay.
ALMONDS AS A SYMBOLIC MESSAGE
In a bid to draw attention, Sahu brought almonds, commonly linked with improving memory, and scattered them across the desk of the Sub-Registrar officer. The gesture was meant to mock what he described as the department’s failure to “remember” or locate his file.
Onlookers at the office were taken aback by the protest, which quickly drew attention from staff and visitors alike.
VIRAL MOMENT SPARKS DEBATE
The incident has since spread widely on social media, triggering debate around bureaucratic delays and accountability in public offices. Many users reacted sharply, pointing to the everyday struggles faced by citizens dealing with paperwork.
Sahu has urged authorities to intervene, trace the missing file, and complete the mutation process without further delay.
