Flight operations across north India were severely disrupted on Monday as dense fog and poor visibility prompted major domestic airlines, including Air India, IndiGo and SpiceJet, to issue travel advisories, warning passengers of delays, diversions and cancellations.

Air India said flight departures and arrivals on Tuesday, December 30, could be impacted due to “bad weather” and reduced visibility in several cities, including Delhi, Amritsar, Jammu, Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Darbhanga, Patna, Guwahati and Bagdogra.

The airline cautioned that dense fog forecast for the early morning hours could lead to cascading disruptions across its network, particularly flights to and from Delhi.

In its advisory, Air India said it was closely monitoring the situation and had taken proactive measures to minimise inconvenience to passengers.

The airline added that ground teams were available at key airports to assist travellers in case of delays, diversions or cancellations caused by fog.

Emphasising passenger safety, Air India said it understood the frustration caused by weather-related disruptions and was making efforts to manage operations smoothly.

The airline also highlighted its ‘FogCare’ initiative, under which passengers booked on select flights likely to be affected during the fog window receive advance alerts on their registered phone numbers.

These passengers are offered the option to reschedule their flights without additional charges or seek a full refund without penalty.

Travellers were advised to check flight status before leaving for the airport and allow extra time for their journeys.

IndiGo, the country’s largest airline, also issued a travel advisory, stating that evening fog had begun settling in around Dehradun, slowing down flight movements.

The airline said its teams were supporting customers at airports and were in close coordination with authorities to resume normal operations as soon as weather conditions improved.

Passengers were urged to keep checking their flight status for the latest updates, as operations could remain slower than usual due to fluctuating visibility.
