According to the FIR, Nithin Raj (in pic) had availed of a loan of ₹15,000 on January 4, 2026 through the InstaPay app at an alleged interest rate of 36% in violation of existing laws.

The police have registered a case against a loan app, identified as InstaPay, in connection with the death of Anjarakandy Kannur Dental College student Nithin Raj R.L., invoking stringent legal provisions as allegations of harassment and institutional lapses mount and campus unrest continues.

The Chakkarakkal police registered the case under Section 308 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Section 13 of the Kerala Money Lenders Act, 1958, and Section 9(1)(a) and 9(2) of the Kerala Prohibition of Charging Exorbitant Interest Act, 2012.
