The dismembered body of a 36-year-old man was found at an empty plot in Punjab’s Ludhiana on Thursday, in the second such gruesome incident in the city within a week. While some body parts of the victim, identified as Davinder Singh, were found stuffed inside a white plastic drum, another portion was discovered burnt.

The body parts of the 36-year-old, who returned from Mumbai earlier this week, were spotted near Jalandhar bypass by a passerby, who alerted the police.

His uncle, Charan Das, told police that Davinder came home from Mumbai on Tuesday but left within minutes to meet a friend, identified as Shera. When Davinder failed to return, his family filed a missing persons report on Wednesday.

Following the recovery of the body, the police questioned locals in the area. The family members of the victim were also questioned. Davinder is survived by his wife and a differently abled daughter.

The gruesome murder is the second such incident to surface in Ludhiana in a week.

Earlier this week, a charred body was found in two pieces from another empty plot in the Meharban area of the city. After receiving information, the police rushed to the spot and sent the body parts for a postmortem.

Since there were no burn marks at the spot where the body was found, it is suspected that the person was murdered and dismembered at another place before his body was dumped there. News reports suggest that the Meharban victim has not been identified yet.
