What happens to ‘Ryan’ in Episode 3 of The Boys Season 3?
The conflict between ‘Ryan’ and ‘Homelander’ begins when the former approaches the latter for their last conversation. While ‘Homelander’ initially believed that they would reconcile themselves, things go south after their discussion when ‘Ryan’ asks him questions about his history, thereby proving that he was lying to him. As a result of this, ‘Homelander’ loses his cool and gets into a physical fight with ‘Ryan.’
Although ‘Ryan’ tried to defend himself, he was unable to keep up with the fight. After beating him multiple times, ‘Homelander’ emerges as the winner of the fight. At the end of their confrontation, ‘Ryan’ can be seen lying unconscious or possibly even dead. This is when ‘Butcher’ finds ‘Ryan.’ It seems that ‘Ryan’ survives, although he is barely able to breathe.Â
What led ‘Homelander’ to attack ‘Ryan’?Â
One thing that is clear from ‘Homelander’s’ actions is that it is a glimpse of his psychological condition. It also shows his perception of power and authority. He likely thinks that ‘Ryan’, as well as those around him, should obey him and sees himself as indispensable. When ‘Ryan’ resists him by questioning him where he came from, ‘Homeland’s’ first instinct is to deal with it with a violent solution during the last scenes. Additionally, his action can also be seen as the result of his desire to obtain Compound VI in episode 3 of The Boys. He thinks that obtaining it would ensure his safety and give him an advantage.Â
Coming back to ‘Homelander’s’ treatment of ‘Ryan’s’ defiance, it offers a glimpse into the former’s approach to handling things in relationships. According to him, he is deserving of loyalty however, when he does not get that, he ends up using control and violence to achieve it.Â
How is Compound V1 connected to the ending conflict?
For those unaware, Compound V1 is one of the most important pieces of conflict that we get to see in this season of The Boys. Characters are shown using V1 to survive the virus. This is why it gains even more value, also resulting in ‘Homelander’ deciding to find it to save himself.Â
There are only two options available, either to get their hands on the compound or to eliminate it. This is what results in the direct confrontation between the characters. Additionally, it also plays a significant role in affecting ‘Homelander’s’ behaviour and ‘Butcher’s’ actions towards ‘Ryan.’Â
In the final moments of The Boys Season 5 Episode 3, we get to see how ‘Ryan’s’ survival essentially means that he continues to remain connected to the conflict despite being severely hurt. After this, ‘Homelander’ goes on to look for the compound. Meanwhile, ‘Butcher’ is still connected to him. The problem does not get solved by the time episode 3 comes to an end.
